Today marks a pivotal moment in our journey. Our sweet, strong boy is undergoing surgery to replace his shunt, a procedure that we’ve been preparing for in both heart and mind. Though we don’t yet know the exact time of the surgery, as he’s an add-on case, we are filled with both hope and anxiety as we take this next step in his journey toward healing. It has been a long few months, and we are all just ready to bring him home, where we can finally be comfortable as a family again.
As we wait, my heart is full of love, concern, and gratitude. Our boy has been through so much already, and today, as he enters the operating room, he takes another step toward recovery. This surgery, though routine for some, carries a weight of emotions that only a parent can truly understand. When you are watching your child undergo procedures, waiting for the outcome, you are entrusting the medical team with more than just your child’s well-being—you are entrusting them with a piece of your heart. The surgeons will literally be holding a piece of my heart in their hands today, and my prayers are with them, for their skill, their steadiness, and their wisdom.
