Brave Steps Forward: G’s Surgery and Tumor Removal Marks a Milestone in His Journey

Today, our family faced another step in our journey with our brave little G, and while the day brought more than we expected, it also reinforced the unwavering hope and strength that guide us through each challenge. As always, we came together as a family, with big sister and daddy by our side, to support G through his surgery. It’s become a tradition for us to be together on these big days, and having each other close felt like exactly what we needed.

This morning, G underwent an echo to check his heart function before the surgery. We were relieved to hear that his heart function was stable, providing some peace of mind as we headed into the procedure. In 48 hours, we will have another echo to ensure he’s handling everything well. The day was filled with anxiety, as G had to be NPO (nothing by mouth) for most of the day due to his anesthesia being scheduled for later in the afternoon. The waiting made the morning tough, but thankfully, G managed to nap for a bit, which helped him rest before the procedure.

The surgery itself was successful, but it turned out to be more significant than we had originally expected. G had a port placed, which was a necessary part of his ongoing treatment. However, what came as an unexpected blessing was that the doctors were able to remove about half of his chest tumor. Initially, we thought it would only be a biopsy, but to our surprise and relief, they were able to safely remove a portion of it. This is a huge step forward in his battle against the tumor, and while it’s not over, it’s a victory we’re thankful for.

The tumor remains attached to his inferior vena cava (IVC) and the right diaphragm nerve, so the medical team decided not to remove that portion of it. Removing it could have risked paralyzing his right diaphragm, and after careful consideration, they decided to prioritize his safety. While it’s reassuring that they were able to remove part of the tumor, we know that the fight isn’t over, and there are still hurdles to overcome.

In light of the surgery, the next steps in G’s treatment have been adjusted. His chemotherapy and antibody treatments have been delayed by a few days to give him time to recover from the surgery and the removal of his chest tube. He’s receiving pain medications to help ease his discomfort, and we’re doing everything we can to ensure that he’s as comfortable as possible during this recovery period.

Reflecting on the day’s events, we are filled with a mixture of gratitude and apprehension. We are so thankful for the successful surgery and the progress G has made, but we are also mindful of the road ahead. The emotional toll of these moments is real, but the love, strength, and support from everyone around us keep us going. We are holding onto the hope that G’s recovery will be swift, and that his pain will be manageable. Our biggest prayer right now is for the chest tube to be removed soon and for G to start healing fully.

We want to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported us throughout this journey. The prayers, messages, and expressions of love have meant more than we can put into words. Your support is truly helping us through this time, and we feel so blessed to have such a strong network surrounding us.

As G faces this next stage in his recovery, we ask for continued prayers and love. We know the road ahead may be tough, but with your continued support, and with G’s strength and resilience, we’re confident that we’ll get through it one step at a time. We can’t wait for the day when we can share even better news about G’s health and healing.

Thank you to all who continue to stand by us. Your love gives us strength every day. We’re so proud of G’s fight, and we’re hopeful for the days ahead.
