When Charlotte and Aaron welcomed their daughter Lenny-Rose into the world, they had no idea just how much their tiny baby girl would have to fight. Born nine weeks premature, Lenny-Rose arrived with multiple health complications, and her parents feared the worst. But through a journey filled with uncertainty, setbacks, and heartache, Lenny-Rose’s story has become one of incredible strength and resilience.
A Rocky Start
Lenny-Rose was born with tumours on her heart and brain, along with a condition called tuberous sclerosis, which causes non-cancerous tumours to grow throughout the body. Doctors immediately began her treatment in St Michael’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where she was started on a medication called Sirolimus, designed to shrink the tumours bit by bit.

“I still remember the first time we were told about the medication. Lenny-Rose was the first premature baby in the UK to trial Sirolimus, and it was a terrifying prospect,” says Charlotte. “But we knew we had to give her every chance possible.”
Her arrival was a stark contrast to the birth of her older sister, with Charlotte and Aaron’s experience in NICU with their middle daughter in 2016 feeling very different. Lenny-Rose’s health challenges were overwhelming, and the uncertainty of her survival weighed heavily on the family.
A Fight for Life
At just two days old, Lenny-Rose’s fragile body faced even more challenges. Doctors informed Charlotte and Aaron that their newborn had been given a 0% chance of survival. She was placed on 24-hour care and a ventilator to help her breathe.

“We were devastated,” Charlotte recalls. “We had already lost a child in 2019, so the thought of history repeating itself was terrifying. On top of that, we had two daughters at home who were desperately worried about their baby sister. I was still in pain from my caesarean, but we had to hold it together for our girls.”
The couple spent two long months in NICU, anxiously watching their little girl battle for every breath. During that time, Lenny-Rose required a blood transfusion, and Charlotte and Aaron saw firsthand how hard she had to fight just to survive.
A Long Road to Recovery
After nine weeks in NICU, Lenny-Rose was finally cleared to return home to Bristol. But her health remained fragile, and Charlotte and Aaron found themselves back at Bristol Children’s Hospital multiple times for check-ups and treatments. “Lenny-Rose is incredibly vulnerable,” Charlotte explains. “She picks up bugs and colds more easily than other babies, and they affect her much more severely.”

In late 2023, when Lenny-Rose was about five months old, her health took another turn. She developed bronchitis and contracted coronavirus, both of which attacked her lungs and made breathing difficult. Despite these setbacks, Lenny-Rose’s fighting spirit remained unwavering.
“We’ve been so fortunate to have such dedicated doctors and nurses by our side,” Charlotte shares. “The staff at both NICU and Bristol Children’s Hospital have always made us feel welcome and assured that Lenny-Rose is in the best possible hands. I am so thankful for everything they’ve done for her.”
A Bright Future Ahead
Now, at seven months old, Lenny-Rose is thriving at home with her big sisters. Although her health still presents challenges, she continues to defy the odds. Charlotte and Aaron are overwhelmed with pride and gratitude as they watch their daughter grow stronger every day.
“Lenny-Rose is a little fighter,” Charlotte says, smiling through tears. “Her health has made things difficult, and there are still scary moments, but she’s already overcome so much. She has proven time and time again that she’s a warrior.”
Her resilience and strength continue to inspire her parents and everyone who has witnessed her journey. “I look at her and think, ‘If she can fight through all of this, so can we.’ She’s taught us to never give up.”

A Story of Hope and Gratitude
Lenny-Rose’s journey has been anything but easy, but it is a story of hope, strength, and the incredible power of love. Charlotte and Aaron are forever grateful to the NICU team, the doctors, nurses, and staff at Bristol Children’s Hospital for everything they’ve done to give their daughter a fighting chance. They are also deeply thankful to Cots for Tots for providing them with free accommodation near the hospital, allowing them to be by Lenny-Rose’s side every step of the way.
“We couldn’t have done it without the support of Cots for Tots,” Charlotte says. “Having a place to stay close to Lenny-Rose made all the difference. It gave us the chance to focus on her and take some of the stress out of an incredibly difficult time.”

Giving Back
As Lenny-Rose continues to grow stronger, Charlotte and Aaron are committed to giving back to the hospital that saved their daughter’s life. They’ve started fundraising to help other families in need and to ensure that future babies like Lenny-Rose receive the care they need.
“We want to give back to the people who helped us,” Charlotte says. “Lenny-Rose is here today because of them, and we’re so grateful. We hope that by raising money for the hospital, we can help other families who are going through what we did.”
Lenny-Rose’s journey is far from over, but her story is already one of hope, love, and unwavering strength. With every passing day, she continues to inspire her parents and everyone around her.
